If your pet walked past, a person showed up, or other motion occurred but nothing was recorded, it's likely because Detection Preference is on by default. This feature filters out non-bird or Nuisance Animals motion, keeping only the clips based on your selected preferences and helping to preserve the device's battery life.
What Is Detection Preference?
Detection Preference is a smart filtering feature developed specifically for bird feeder users. It includes two toggles:
- Bird
- Nuisance Animals
By default, both options are enabled, meaning only birds and nuisance animals (like squirrels) will trigger recordings. Other motions — such as people or pets — will be ignored.
How to Modify the Setting
Here's how you can adjust your Detection Preference in just a few steps:
- Open the Kiwibit App
- Tap the gear icon (⚙️) at the bottom right of the live view screen
- Enter Motion Detection
- Find Detection Preference
-
Toggle ON/OFF the options for Bird and Nuisance Animals as needed
Tip: To capture all motion events, turn both toggles OFF
When Should You Keep It ON?
- You mainly want to observe bird or animal activity and avoid irrelevant clips
- You want to extend battery life by reducing excessive motion triggers
Summary
- If detection feels inconsistent, check if Detection Preference is enabled
- It's a powerful tool to cut down on unwanted recordings and save power
- You're always free to disable it to capture all motion
